Below is provided a list of numerous organizations which assist victims of violence. The range of abuse can be from neither neglect, mental abuse to physical abuse or even torture. This list is not only for individuals in the U.S.A but now is for individuals of a growing list of countries. You can find informative information, contacts and phone numbers for support, and much more in order to better equip you and your loved ones from violence.

AARDVARC: An abuse, rape and domestic violence resource collection. An excellent resource to information, current news, research and services.

Abuse Victim Hotline: The Abuse Victim Hotline, Inc. offers preliminary support to victims of abuse nationally via their toll-free hotline and confidential email service. If their volunteers cannot help a victim or friend/loved one of a victim directly, they'll do their best to point them in the right direction.

Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA): The Network is a non-profit, membership corporation composed of 21 programs statewide that provide services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, offender services, and adult crisis intervention services. The purposes of the Network are to promote linkage and communication between the programs, facilitate information sharing, secure funding in a cooperative and non-competitive manner, and to expose the roots of violence against women and children in this culture.

Asian and Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence: The Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence is a national network of advocates; community members; professionals from health, mental health, law, education, and social services; survivors; scholars; researchers; and activists from public policy, community organizations, youth programs, immigrants’ rights networks, communities of color, women’s groups, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender communities, and other social justice organizations. We serve as a forum for, and clearinghouse on information, research, resources and critical issues about violence against women in Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement identified domestic violence as one of the most serious problems facing Asian immigrant communities. It offers: counseling, support, advocacy, education and training. Translation of their service descriptions are available in: Chinese, Khmer, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Hindi.

California Partnership to End Domestic Violence: The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence is a catalyst and advocate for social change through innovative solutions to ensure safety and justice for victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Center for the Prevention of School Violence: The Center serves as a primary point of contact for dealing with the problem of school violence. The Center focuses on ensuring that schools are safe and secure so that every student is able to attend a school that is safe and secure, one that is free of fear and conducive to learning. On their site you'll find project descriptions, special articles, research briefs and bulletins, newsletters and downloadable files.

Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence: A well-designed and informative site, the Center works from a multi-disciplinary platform on the subject of violence and facilitates the building of bridges between the research community and the practitioners and policy makers. The CSPV collects research literature and resources on the causes and prevention of violence and provides direct information services to the public by offering topical searches on customized databases. Second, CSPV offers technical assistance for the evaluation and development of violence prevention programs. Third, CSPV maintains a basic research component through data analysis and other projects on the causes of violence and the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs. The Center maintains four databases. They are the:

Child Welfare Information Gateway: This vast site contains online publications, fact sheets, databases and catalogs, access to statistical information from across the US, conference calendars and a host of links to other sites of interest.

Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence: The Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence is committed to breaking the cycle of partner violence through workplace and community prevention education. Its goals are to develop prevention education programs and facilitate networking between members to create a higher consciousness level about the issue in an effort to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, partner violence.
Deaf Victims Advocacy Services: This service, based in Vermont, believes that deaf people in Vermont have the right to live in a violence-free environment. Our mission is to ensure that deaf victims have equal access to support services. Their services include education, training and support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Deaf Women of Iowa Against Abuse: This organization provides services to deaf, hard-of-hearing and deaf-blind people and their families who experience domestic violence or sexual assault.

Domestic Violence Handbook: This Michigan-based site includes a list of shelters/counseling centers for this area, and an excellent summary of the symptoms of domestic violence, the cycle of violence, and what steps can be taken to promote safety for the victim. It also has a list of counseling centers for the abuser.
Domestic Violence Resource Manual: This extensive online document, written by the Multnomah County, Oregon, Department of Community and Family Services, contains a wealth of information. Additional links of interest serve both users in the Multnomah County area as well as connecting to links of national and international interest.

Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges: The FVD of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) is dedicated to improving the way courts, law enforcement, agencies and others respond to family violence, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of domestic violence victims and their children. On this site you'll find a resource center, technical assistance, training information for judges and court personnel, publication ordering forms and much more.

Family Violence Prevention Fund: An excellent source of information and statistics and educational materials on family violence for home, educational, office and court uses. A large collection of relevant links can also be found. An excellent resource site.
Focus on the Family:Focus on the Family is all about family. It is about nurturing and defending families. Accordingly, our motto, adopted in March 2008 is "Helping Families Thrive."This motto reflects our desire to nurture families through helpful advice and resources in areas such as parenting, discipline, and marriage, while at the same time defending the family by working to preserve the institution of traditional marriage, protect the lives of preborn babies, combat the anti-family forces in pop culture and the government, and other important issues.

Higher Education Center Against Violence and Abuse / Electronic Clearinghouse: An excellent resource listing courses available throughout the US on violence, abuse and prevention. A large number of links to sites of interest and text-only files on violence are also available. One of the best sites I've found on the topic of violence.

Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community: The Institute is a research, advocacy and educational organization seeks to help prevent/reduce violence in the African-American community.

Intimate Partner Violence: This analysis by the US Bureau of Justice Statistics of the National Crime Victimization Survey is heavily quoted by domestic violence advocates. This link is presented so those interested can view the statistics directly and in context. A text summary is available, as is their latest update, IVP 1993-2001
Jewish Woman International Domestic Violence Issues: Information and background for abuse women and the rabbis who may counsel them. An extensive set of links to related and helpful sites is also available.

Kan-Win: Korean-American Women in Need: Kan-Win provides counseling, advocacy and social services to victims of domestic or family violence who are of Korean or Korean-American heritage, including translation services and court accompaniment.
Loved Ones Victim Services: Started as a support group to help one another with the grief and trauma associated with homicide, Loved Ones Victim Services expanded its outreach to provide specialized case management to children. LOVS addresses the cycle of violence in the Los Angeles area through intervention and prevention programs aimed at supporting the co-victims of violent crime.
LUNA (Latinas Unidas por un Nuevo Amanecer) provides a 24 hour crisis line, one on one counseling, and group counseling to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Services are available in both Spanish and English.


National Center for Victims of Crime: Many links to crime-specific pages and large amounts of resource material on and for victims of crime, victim's rights advocacy and national and state laws/programs.

National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome: A large and complete site, including sections on frequently asked questions, conferences and events, prevention, signs and symptoms, crisis hotline, support and much more.
National Coalition Against Domestic Violence: The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is dedicated to the empowerment of battered women and their children and to the elimination of personal and societal violence in the lives of women and their children. NCADV's work includes coalition building at the local , state, regional and national levels; public education and awareness activities; training and technical assistance; public policy development and monitoring; information and referral services. A wide variety of resources are available through this site.

National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence: NCCAFV provides public awareness and education materials, program and resource development consultation, and technical assistance and training in the United States and internationally.

National Domestic Violence Hotline: Background information on this service, plus resources for professionals and domestic violence victims of all types.
National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence: An excellent resource offering support, advocacy and information.
National Network to End Domestic Violence: The NNEDV is an advocacy organization of US state domestic violence coalitions and is a leading voice among domestic violence advocates in public policy, as well as providing support to local programs and coalitions through information, research, funding, and training.
National Violence Against Women Prevention Research Center: A project of the CDC, this website is designed to be useful to scientists, practitioners, advocates,
grassroots organizations, and any other professional or lay person interested in
current topics related to violence against women and its prevention. Extensive statistical and research information is available.
Parental Abduction in Divorce: A collection of links and information from around the world on this crime.
Shaken Baby Syndrome Alliance: A large and complete site, including sections on frequently asked questions, conferences and events, prevention, signs and symptoms, crisis hotline, support and much more.
Social Service Administration Provides Assistance to Victims of Domestic Violence: A short page of instructions on the steps domestic violence victims can take to obtain a new Social Security number.
Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFE): A site dedicated to stopping abuse against women, men, gays and lesbians. Very informative and non-judgmental.Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFEO-NH: Is the New Hampshire chapter of Stop Abuse For Everyone. They are a direct service provider of services to victims of domestic violence, family violence (including sibling violence, elder abuse, child abuse etc.), teen dating violence, stalking, and more. They provide a wide variety of online services. In addition to being a crisis service, they are a state resource for education and outreach.
Symptoms of Emotional Abuse: A well designed and informative page on emotional abuse and they cycle of abuse; how to recognize it in yourself and others. Many links of use and interest are also available.
The Black Church and Domestic Violence Project: BCDVI develops partnerships and collaborations to provide educational, spiritual and technical support as well as advocacy and leadership development: to enhance the capacity of the church to empower and protect the victims of domestic violence; to hold abusers accountable; to promote healing and wholeness in African-American communities.
The Program for Torture Victims (PTV) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate the suffering and health consequences of torture through psychological, medical, and social services to victims of state-sponsored violence.
U.S. Department of Justice Domestic Violence: Links to information and resources of use to victims of domestic violence as well as researchers.
U.S. Department of Justice Violence Against Women Office: A large number of links of interest to domestic violence agencies/support groups can be found here, including grant information and details of ongoing research and reports supported by this office. Of particular interest is their listing of Domestic Violence Coalitions of States and Territories
US State Department's Children and Family Issues: A series of links detailing various international laws in regards to this children and child support, including links on international child abduction and links to laws/situations/requirements in specific countries.
Violence Against Women Online Resources: A powerful and extremely useful site, with information on education, events, funding resources, and a large online resource and research library.
Women's Justice Center: This organization provides advocacy for victims of rape, domestic violence, and child abuse, particularly in the Latina and other under served communities of Sonoma County; other services include training and community education. They have a very interesting set of recommendations on how you can Monitor, Uncover and Enter Evidence into the Case Yourself.
Age & Opportunity Older Victim Services and Support : The OVS Program Support Volunteer provides emotional support to older adults who have experienced some form of criminal victimization as well as providing information and assistance when required.
American Administration on Aging - Elder Rights / Elder Abuse: A wealth of information on elder abuse research, prevention, education, victim support, resources and reporting. Highly recommended.
American Administration on Aging Elder Abuse Factsheet: This page explains exactly what elder abuse is, how to recognize and where to go for help.
Directory of Services and Programs Addressing the Needs of Older Adult Victims of Violence in Canada: This document -- in Adobe Acrobat format -- supplies a national reference for older victims of violence to programs and services.
Elder Abuse: Extensive information on elder abuse, training for professionals dealing with such abuse, research in the field, legislation (US), as well as a monthly online review of articles, news and other information on this subject.
International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse: The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse aims to increase society's ability, through international collaboration, to recognize and respond to the mistreatment of older people in whatever setting it occurs, so that the latter years of life will be free from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
National Center on Elder Abuse: An excellent resource on elder abuse, how to help, where to go for aid, research and documentation, conferences, newsletters and their Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE).
Battered Husband Support: An online discussion area for men who have been battered by their mates. The group administrator does an excellent job of keeping the discussion positive and productive.
Domestic Violence - Another Perspective: Though mainly focused on men as victims of partner violence, this site is based on the concept that there is no excuse for domestic violence, no matter which partner is the perpetrator. Much of the information provided is gender-neutral. Included is background material on domestic violence, how to recognize when you are in an abusive relationship, steps to take in order to get out safely.

SAFE (Stop Abuse For Everyone): SAFE is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy, information, and support for men and women who are the victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. SAFE concentrates on domestic violence against straight men, gay men, and lesbian women, because few services exist for these groups.
International Resources
Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence: Their mission is to eliminate domestic violence in Asian & Pacific Islander communities by increasing awareness about the extent and depth of the problem; making culturally specific issues visible; strengthening community models of prevention and intervention; identifying and expanding resources; informing and promoting research and policy.
Communities Against Violence Network (CAVNET): The purpose of the CAVNET homepage is to serve as a searchable, authoritative source of information about violence against women, children, persons with disabilities, gays and lesbians, and others. A very interesting and useful resource.
Daphne Toolkit: Here you will find materials, lessons and ideas from 357 projects financed by the European Commission’s Daphne Program between 1997 and 2003, with related links and resources. You will also find an outline of the projects supported in 2004. Outlines of 2005 projects will be added as they become available. Because of the time-lag between implementation of the projects and reporting on final outcomes, the materials, lessons and ideas are not available until two years after the project began, so the files on 2004 projects, for example, will be added towards the end of 2006.

Domestic Violence Information Center: A terrific resource, this page contains a huge number of domestic violence related links, lots of text resource material on relevant speeches by politicians or on legislation, and a very nice compilation of U.S. national and state domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment/stalking hotlines or offices.
Hot Peach Pages: The goal of the Hot Peach Pages is to provide information on abuse in as many languages as possible, along with lists of abuse help agencies for every country in the world. Currently, they either have or link to: abuse information in 79 languages; and list agencies for 229 out of the approximately 238 countries in the world
National Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence: NCCAFV provides public awareness and education materials, program and resource development consultation, and technical assistance and training in the United States and internationally.
National Family Justice Center Alliance: Our Vision is to create a network of national and international Family Justice Centers with close working relationships, shared training and technical assistance, collaborative learning processes, and coordinated funding assistance.
Verbal Abuse: The Verbal Abuse website is dedicated to the recognition and prevention of verbal abuse in homes, schools and workplaces. A major online resource in this field.
White Ribbon Campaign: An international advocacy organization of men working to end violence against women. They are an educational organization to encourage reflection and discussion that leads to personal and collective action among men.
Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse: The Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse is a national resource on issues of domestic violence and family violence. It provides a central point for the collection and dissemination of Australian domestic and family violence policy, practice and research. It aims to meet the information needs of government agencies, generalist and specialist service providers, researchers and interested members of the public.
Domestic Violence and Incest Resource Centre: The Domestic Violence & Incest Resource Centre (DVIRC) is funded by the Department of Human Services Victoria, Australia. It is a statewide resource centre for information about domestic violence and sexual assault. DVIRC provides: education and training, publications, newsletters, a specialist research library, case consultation as well as information and referral.
Justlook Australia: A non-profit social service directory agency, you can search their database for contact information to victim service programs, domestic violence agencies, sexual assault centers, suicide hotlines and much more.
A National Directory for Men Who Are or Have Been Victims of Violence (Canada only): This extensive document -- in Adobe Acrobat format -- lists programs for men in Canada.
BC Association of Specialized Victim Service and Counselling Programs: The Association provides a provincial voice for survivors of violence and the community-based services that support them. They maintain a strong network between Community-Based Victim Assistance programs, Sexual Assault Centres and Stopping the Violence counseling programs across BC. They have also established important links with government, policy makers, legislators and other provincial organizations.
Canadian Women's Foundation: Canadian Women’s Foundation raises money and makes grants to help stop violence against women and build economic independence for women and their children. We're investing in the power of women and the dreams of girls!
Centre for Research on Violence: Funded by the Canadian government, this organization seeks to prevent domestic violence and sexual abuse. They are involved in a number of areas, including intervention strategies, civil and criminal remedies, education, training initiatives and prevention.
Education Wife Assault: Extensive information, research and referral options are provided by this 15+ year old organization, based in Toronto, Ontario.

PEI: Islander's Guide to Victims of Family Violence Act: This site describes several elements, remedies and legal actions available to victims of family violence in this province.
Métis Nation of Ontario Victim Services: The Victim Services Program is a recent project under the Health Services Branch of the MNO. It is funded by the Ontario Government. The focus of the program is to increase public awareness, prevention strategies and provide community resources to the MNO citizens who are affected by violence (domestic violence, child abuse, etc). The MNO makes every effort to provide culturally relevant material to all its citizens.
METRAC (Metro Action Committee on Public Violence Against Women and Children): A non-profit organization based in Toronto, Ontario, committed to the right of women and children to live free of violence and the threat of violence. This site supplies excellent information on their organization, the numerous programs METRAC oversees in the Metro Toronto area, plus it give access to a database of over 4,000 documents on violence against women and children, METRAC's own publications and a small collection of links.
National Aboriginal Circle Against Family Violence: NACAFV serves by acting as a national clearinghouse for on-the-ground information, developing standards, training programs and provides a project monitoring Aboriginal family violence. NACAFV as has its basis in a consultative process that respects and recognizes Aboriginal knowledge as necessary for the effective provision of family violence intervention and prevention to Aboriginal peoples.
National Clearinghouse on Family Violence Canada: An office of Health Canada, this site provides excellent information and resources on all aspects of family violence, including: prevention, elder abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, sexual abuse and more.
Ontario Network of Sexual Assault Care and Treatment Centres (ONSACTC): This website provides information about the services offered at Sexual Assault Care and Treatment Centres in Ontario as well as information about sexual assault and domestic violence. Although the original mandate of their service revolved around the care for victims/survivors of sexual assault, their mandate is expanding to include service for victims/survivors of domestic violence.
Ontario Women's Justice Network: This is an online legal resource for women's organizations and individuals working on issues related to justice and violence against women and children. Their services include examining various justice issues, such as sexual assault and partner abuse; providing legal information such as a glossary of legal terms, fact sheets, and commentary on laws and court cases pertaining to women's experiences. We also offer links to relevant online resources.
Shelternet: Shelternet is designed to help women find or get in touch with domestic violence shelters through the Internet. Information on the site includes: directories and image maps of domestic violence shelters across the county; how to make safety plans; how to hide your internet activities; a "just for kids" section; a "Questions and Answers" area. Of special interest is their ShelterNet Internet and E-mail Safety section; a series of tips for Internet and e-mail safety from a domestic violence center.
Sisters in Spirit: The national Sisters in Spirit Campaign was launched in March 2004 to raise public awareness of the alarmingly high rates of violence against Aboriginal women in Canada. NWAC believes we are in an urgent state of affairs with regards to the safety of Aboriginal women in Canada. The main objective of the Sisters in Spirit initiative is to address violence against Aboriginal (First Nations Inuit and Métis) women, particularly racialized and/or sexualized violence, that is, violence perpetrated against Aboriginal women because of their gender and Aboriginal identity.
Stop Abuse for Everyone (S.A.F.E.): Stop Abuse For Everyone is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy, information, and support for men and women who are the victims of domestic violence. They set up and advocate for services for men and women, straight, gay, or lesbian, with the vision of a world of powerful, supportive relationships, free of violence.
Transition Houses and Shelters for Abused Women in Canada: This document -- in Adobe Acrobat format -- supplies a reference to shelters across Canada.
Violet: Law and Abused Women: This site is a plain language, woman-friendly, safe space on the Internet providing passive and interactive services to meet the legal information needs of abused women and their service providers in Alberta. Violet is a joint project of the Legal Studies Program, Faculty of Extension and the Alberta Council of Women's Shelters.
Home Office Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence Information: This small site contains a wealth of information, documents and links to sites or organizations of interest to victims of domestic violence and those who serve them.
Women's Aid Federation National Home Page: This English national organization provides support and information for women and children experiencing physical or emotional violence or sexual abuse in the home. Information on public education, safe houses, safety plans, statistics and useful links to sites of interest can all be found here.
